Blue Ribbon BBQ, located at 1375 Washington Street in West Newton, offers southern flavor and hospitality so close to campus. This southern themed eatery offers homemade comfort food at a reasonable price with great service, which has had Newton residents lining up out the door when owner Geoff Janowski opened the restaurant in 1995.

Walking into the restaurant, customers are taken to the cozy comfort roots of the south with endless jar decorations, dim lighting, the smell of a fresh cooked meal and the warm feeling of home.

Blue Ribbon BBQ offers an array of food selections that come in large portions leaving customers more than satisfied. Blue Ribbon offers selections from sandwiches to platters to side dishes and desserts. Platters include your choice of meat, two sides, and cornbread. All platters range from $13-$20. Sandwiches are served with two sides, which vary daily between beans, cole slaw, green beans, rice, mash potatoes and potato salad. Sandwiches range from $8-$12.

What’s unique about Blue Ribbon is that everything is homemade, including its pickles and sauces. Not only does Blue Ribbon offer a wide selection of lunch and dinner options, they also have a wide variety of desserts such as key lime pie, pecan pie, and fruit cobbler.

Looking to host an event at Lasell but don’t want pizza? Blue Ribbon caters events and offers a large menu for group meals that come in large portions with that same quality taste from the restaurant. Blue Ribbon also offers a take out option, which can be ordered over the phone to pick up at the restaurant.

“My favorite thing about working here is the consistency of the food, which is what keeps people coming back,” said Koop, an employee of Blue Ribbon BBQ. “My favorite meal is the beef brisket sandwich.”

If you’re looking to try a southern home cooked meal, simply take the shuttle to West Newton and walk towards Boston Sports Club. Blue Ribbon is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
