Students check out the Spirit Week and Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend schedule posted in the Campus Center.

Starting on Tuesday, October 13, students were able to participate in a variety of on-campus Spirit Week activities, hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA). Spirit Week ended on Friday, October 16, and on Saturday, October 17, Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend, hosted by the Office of Student Activities, will begin.

Lasell has 70 active clubs, 15 varsity sports teams, over 1,600 undergraduate students, and a whole list of reasons to celebrate school pride. Both SGA and the Office of Student Activities are looking forward to the celebration and cannot wait for students to come participate in the fun.

“Spirit Week has always been a great success, but this year, we planned activities that will really engage students and spark a lot of interest,” said SGA president Anthony Szol.

The week kicked off on Tuesday with a T-Shirt Giveaway and a block party with pizza, ice cream, and other treats in the Arnow Courtyard. On Wednesday, a Laser Tag Game was held in de Witt Hall. On Thursday a photo booth was set up outside the Valentine Dining Hall, followed by the annual Chicken Nugget Eating Competition, and a 90s Night with games and prizes in the Campus Center. On Friday the different classes faced off in Powder Puff Games and giveaways and performances by different school clubs were held at Fan Fest in the Athletic Center.

“Spirit Week is a great opportunity for students to bond and get to know each other. It is also a time to come together as a school community and show off our ‘Laser Pride’,” said Morgan Nash, a member of SGA and senior class president.

Spirit Week will lead into Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend, which will feature Fall Fest and River Day. According to Director of Student Activities, Jennifer Granger, this weekend is the college’s time to enjoy the company of students and their families, faculty and staff, alumni, and all the members of the extended Lasell community.

“Five years ago, when I started at Lasell, we decided to combine Spirit Week with Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend. This way, students are able to get more involved in Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend and vice versa. I think the two events play off each other really well,” said Granger.

On Saturday a variety of food trucks will be arriving in the Athletic Center parking lot at 11:30AM for Fall Fest. Throughout the day, sports games will be played on Greiller Field. On Sunday canoe races will be held on the Charles River as a part of River Day.

“I am the most excited for River Day, because it originally started in 1882 and has been an iconic Lasell tradition ever since,” said SGA member Colbylyn Gilman. “This year, I even get to race in one of the canoes!”

In the last few days leading up to Spirit Week, students all over campus are buzzing with excitement. “I hope to either attend or participate in all of the Spirit Week activities this year. I have a few friends playing in the Powder Puff Games, so I cannot wait to go to that,” said senior Stephanie Sweet.

“Overall, I hope we have a solid group of lasers at the events this week and weekend. There is so much time and effort put into planning Spirit Week and Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend. As the senior class president, I hope to see all of my class members making the most of their senior year by getting involved and attending every single one of the events,” said Nash.
