On Jan. 14, a campus ice skating rink opened for the Lasell community and its neighbors. The rink is located on Seminary Avenue across from the Arnow Campus Center on top of the tennis courts.
“One of the things I’m always looking for is more ways to have fun,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management Kathleen O’Connor. “We have limited field space and are trying to find ways for students to stay active.”
O’Connor makes sure that credit is given to Associate Vice President of Administration and Finance Diane Parker as well as the Director of Plant Operations Wayne Lamoureux. “Wayne identified a company to purchase the rink from and the logistics of it, and Diane Parker worked to find how we could build within the parameters of the historic district.”
Lasell is also offering 3 vs. 3 hockey to go along with the open skate at the rink. “I worked with Kristy Walter, the Athletic Director, to put together a hockey league so we can offer both public skate and intramural programs,” said O’Connor. The 3 vs. 3 hockey began on January 24 and will run every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6 – 8 PM, weather permitting.
Overall, the reception of the rink appears to be a positive one. When the weather is cooperative, the ice is a busy place. Senior Max Corbett says, “It’s nice to have a place to be active outside in the winter and the idea of an ice rink is great.”
With the temperatures fluctuating and spring fast approaching, the ice rink will be open until March 14. Swing on by between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM to skate at Laser Ice Rink.
