Being your own boss and creating your own content takes a lot of time and effort. It takes a lot of work to grow your following and to start making real money so work hard and the results will eventually show.

Yes, you will need to make a few purchases if you want high quality content. Do your research and talk to other creators to find the best equipment for you.
