The Women’s soccer team put on an impressive offensive display at Taylor Field on Saturday afternoon. The Lasers got off to a fast start with a goal from freshman Alyssa DeOliveira just 26 seconds into the game. DeOliveira’s goal was a header off a cross from freshman Priscilla Martinelli.
Martinelli would then find Serena Speight on a cutback pass from the end line just 6 minutes later. Speight fired a shot to the bottom left corner, passing the keeper to give the Lasers a 2-0 lead.
Lasell continued to pour the pressure on but Dean College keeper, Haley Gaunt, stood tall in net. Gaunt finished the game with nine saves from 12 shots on goal.
Dean’s best scoring chance came off a freekick from Janey Boldrighini, but it was confidently saved by Lasell senior keeper, Angela Sanzari. Lasell quickly responded with a rocket of a shot from Erin Petrocelli, that Gaunt tipped out for a corner. Seconds later, DeOliveira fired a missile off the crossbar. Lasell continued to push forward throughout the half to no avail and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Lasers came storming out in the second half as Martinelli danced around a defender and connected again with fellow freshman DeOliveira for the home team’s third goal of the game. The Lasers continued to dominate the game as they peppered Gaunt with shots and kept the ball in Dean’s half of the field for almost the entire second half.
After the game, Martinelli who had three assists in the game, spoke about the team’s success against Dean. “As a team we were able to connect on the outsides,” she said. “Taking the ball down the line and putting the ball into the box was a key part of how we succeeded as a team, and when we found the middle of the field, we were able to connect with a goal.”
Lasell’s dominating win moves them to a 2-2 overall record and a 2-0 conference record. The Lasers will play at home again on Wednesday the 29 versus Rivier at 4 p.m.
