On Saturday, the field hockey team took the field for an afternoon matchup against the Rivier Raiders. The Lasers were coming in on a high note after freshman goaltender Courtney Tello was one of two Lasell athletes to win GNAC Rookie of the Week honors.
The Raiders got out to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from senior Lia Yohanan less than five minutes into the game. After that, it was all Lasers.
With less than one minute left in the first quarter, the Lasers tied the game at one on a goal from junior Sage Dodier, assisted by junior Sheridan Blaha.
Lasell scored two more goals in the second quarter ten minutes apart, one from sophomore Lily Stark assisted by junior Kensie Lennon, and one by sophomore Lisa Ortiz. After a scoreless third, Dodier sealed the victory with another goal, assisted by freshman Kaleigh Miller halfway through the fourth.
Tello had another strong performance in goal, making three strong saves to keep Lasell ahead and stunt any chance of a Rivier comeback. Tello’s record in goal improves to 3-2 on the year with the victory.
The Lasers move to 3-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Great Northeastern Athletic Conference with Saturday’s victory.
