Lasell fall sports had some great recognition coming into the season as the Women’s volleyball, soccer, and field hockey teams all placed in the top five of their respective Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) preseason poll.
Women’s volleyball placed fifth in their preseason poll. The Lasers are looking for a fresh start to the program with first year head coach Jeff Vautrin taking over the reins as head coach. The volleyball team has made the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons, but have yet to get past the GNAC semifinals in any of those 12 appearances. Vautrin brought in what looks like a fantastic freshman class with 12 freshmen who have had a majority of the playing time thus far. So far at 6-5 and their best start since 2016, look for the women’s volleyball team to make a real run this year for the GNAC championship.
Next up the women’s soccer team placed thirdin their preseason poll. The women’s soccer team has won the GNAC 7 of the last 9 years, led by head coach Vito La Francesca in his 15th season the Lasers are looking to get back on top after getting knocked out the semifinals in 2019. La Francesca had this to say about getting his team back to the top of the GNAC. “We look at the details and fundamentals and we begin to build our foundation.” La Francesca said. “We don’t look ahead of ourselves and we focus on one game at a time. These girls are family and know what their ultimate goal is.” Coach La Francesca’s words have proved to be pivotal thus far as the women’s soccer team is 5-0 in GNAC this season.
Lastly, the field hockey team who placed second in their poll. Lasell has been to the last three GNAC championships but have been unable to capture the title losing all three to Saint Joseph’s Maine. Senior and captain Grace Marc-Aurele talked about an equal playing field and the impact the underclassman has had on the team. “I feel like everyone was knocked down a peg with the Covid season and have a number of girls that are not familiar with a full season.” Marc-Aurele said. “However, our girls have adapted well and play a lot, they have been a big reason for our success and we love celebrating all of there accomplishments.” The field hockey team is another undefeated team in the GNAC at 4-0, and are looking for another GNAC championship.
This fall, keep up to date with all three Lasell sports around campus and catch all the exciting action.
