Remember them?

By Owen Kwet -1851 Contributor

As Gen Zs and Millenials we’ve been gifted with artists such as Britney Spears, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, One Direction, and… Taio Cruz? There are many artists we have completely forgotten about. Nonetheless, there are some good artists from our youth we should still keep in mind that have a great impact on music.

Hot Chelle Rae-

This pop rock band had huge hits such as “Tonight Tonight” and “I Like It Like That” in 2011. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to reach that height of success in a decade. But this band took the end of 2011 by storm. Though they broke up in 2014 and still produce independent albums.

Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, she became known for her hit single, “Royals”, in late 2013 debuting at number 90, and swiftly climbing all the way to number one according to Billboard. Performing on Jimmy Fallon, Ellen, and the Grammys, earned her superstardom.

PSY took the world by storm after his hit “Gangnam Style.” When the music video hit YouTube in the Summer of 2012, everyone listened to it for weeks. Though PSY released a follow up song titled, “Gentleman”, and later collaborated with Snoop Dogg, he hasn’t been in the masses since 2017.

These guys were… cool-ish. Uncle and nephew duo Redfoo and SkyBlu, made a name for themselves as LMFAO, an EDM duo. They garnered some success in 2009 with their debut album Party Rock, and later achieved even more success with their second album Sorry for Party Rocking. They took a hiatus later in 2012. Nevertheless, they had everyone party rocking at every single nightclub.

Natasha Bedingfield-

Bedingfield came all the way from England to become a pop star in the 2000s with hits like “Unwritten,” “Pocketful of Sunshine,” and “Love Like This.” Unfortunately, she hasn’t made the charts with any of her albums or singles for a long time. However, she recently appeared on The Masked Singer as The Pepper.

Sean Kingston-

His burst in 2007 with “Beautiful Girls” made him an established superstar. Only two years later, he once again topped charts with “Fire Burning,” and the year after, “Eenie Meenie,” featuring Justin Bieber, as well as, “Letting Go (Dutty Love),” and “Dumb Love.” Only a few months ago, he released a new single titled, “Darkest Times.”

Cee Lo Green-

Though his career started in the 90s, he became well known in 2006 as one half of the duo, Gnarls Barkley. Together they released their hit single “Crazy,” until 2008 where Green went solo. Two years later he came out with the hit single, “Forget You.” Nowadays, there isn’t much attention on him, though he was a judge and coach on the first four seasons of “The Voice,” and had a short-lived reality series on TBS.
