Following a riveting matchup against the Anna Maria Amcats Saturday afternoon, the Lasers returned to Taylor Field to face Curry College. Despite a strong effort, the Lasers fell to Curry 6-2.

Curry entered Sunday’s game with three days of rest, last playing on Wednesday against Mass Maritime. With a full lineup, Curry took advantage of the Lasers lineup that featured mostly first-years and sophomores.

Curry got out to a quick lead, scoring the first goal of the game only six and a half minutes into play on a penalty kick. Only 32 seconds later, they scored again, giving sophomore Lucas Drons his second goal of the game. Drons would find the back of the net once more, putting Curry up 3-0 less than halfway through the first half. Before the half would end, Curry added another goal, this one by junior Adam Pforr.

Despite the 4-0 deficit headed into the second half, the Lasers continued to battle. Curry’s Matt Angelini scored first in the second half, beating Gabrielus Bazikas to make the score 5-0 in favor of Curry.

Sophomore Daniel Faynstein avoided the shutout for the Lasers and extended his personal scoring streak to three games, scoring two goals less than two minutes apart. His now five goals on the season remains a team high.

Curry added one more goal of their own by first-year Sean Butler, putting Curry up 6-2.

“We had an 11 that hasn’t really seen a lot of collegiate minutes,” head coach Jared Lewis said about his young lineup. “I’m happy we got the minutes in with this group and now we know that we can rely on them and filter them in when needed.”

The Lasers will play their next game on the road Wednesday, travelling to take on a Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Albertus Magnus. The message from Lewis going forward is to continue improving, saying “the performance and the results sometimes don’t match up… Now we just have to hold our heads high, and we go again.”
