Since the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, people have shown their respects for the victims in different places across in the Greater Boston Area. Two memorials, which are pictured above, include Boylston Street in Boston and the Johnny Kelley statue at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Walnut Street in Newton.
Throughout the Greater Boston area, Marathon Monday is supposed to be a day of celebration, cheering on the thousands of runners who make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Copley Square. However, Marathon Monday 2013 will not be remembered because of the race. When two bombs exploded near the finish line, the City of Boston and its surrounding communities went into a state of panic, frantically attempting to get in touch with loved ones either running the marathon or lined up along its route.
As the story continued to develop, members of the Lasell College community took to Twitter to express their sentiments on the day’s events. Many used the hashtag #PrayForBoston, while others were worried about Professor Neil Hatem and Athletic Trainer Chris Troyanos. Hatem was running and was 4-5 blocks from the finish line at the time of the explosions. Troyanos was volunteering as a trainer in Copley Square, but was also unharmed.
