With the exception of some teams practicing in hopes of playing in the spring, sports on campus have come to a halt. However, this lack of athletic action affects more than just players and coaches.

In a time when cancelations seem to be inevitable every single day, another victim has been taken: the winter sports season. Lasell’s announcement came on October 23, 11 days before the presidents’ council decided to make the same decision for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The counsel is made up of the head of each conference school.

For prospective students, a strong athletic department can be the reason for choosing a particular school. Lasell’s Athletic website reflects this idea, saying “Athletics are considered an integral part of sound educational experience with the goal to have each student-athlete strive to reach his or her potential, on and off the field.”

Although it is one of the smaller majors on campus, the athletic training program has effectively demonstrated to be one of the most challenging programs offered at Lasell. The students involved have showed their passion to eventually become athletic trainers (AT’s) through countless hours of studying and hands-on experiences.
Lasell Athletics has hired two new athletic trainers at the start of the fall sports preseason. Chris Noyes and Colin McCullough were brought in this year to fill a void in the athletic program, joining current trainer Hilary Turner to form a three- person team.

What coaching experience have you had?
“I spent ten years coaching basketball and three years coaching women’s volleyball prior to moving to Lasell as the Sports Information Director. I spent two years as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Union College. I then spent two years as the assistant men’s basketball coach at LeMoyne College, located in Syracuse, N.Y. From LeMoyne I moved to Green Mountain College, in Poultney, Vt. where I was the head men’s basketball coach for six seasons and worked as the head women’s volleyball coach for three years.” Continue reading “Q&A: Montana takes head coach position”→
