Saraswati Puja

By Mike Maruk – 1851 Staff

On Thursday, Feb. 27, the IC3 held a celebration seminar for Hindu Goddess of Learning, Saraswati Puja.

The celebration of the goddess was hosted by Professor Ashmita Khasnabish. She invited many of the students from her class as well as other peers of hers to attend the event. There was a table decorated with yellow and white flowers as a shrine to celebrate Saraswati Puja as well as a table to color a print of the goddess.

Most of the people attending the event were either wearing the colors white or yellow to recognize that those were the same colors resembling the ones worn by the goddess. When Professor Khasnabish began her presentation, she explained how Saraswati Puja is the goddess of interdisciplinary skills and learning. Khasnabish stated many children usually go and pray to her for guidance or help before taking a test or do something involving the need for knowledge.

Throughout the event, there was a selection of Indian-style food available. There was a tray of traditional chicken, a few options of rice and soup as well as a sort of rice chip available. In the end, there were poems and performances made in celebration of the goddess’s powers of learning and skills.
