The spring sports season is in full swing for Laser teams, and many programs are consistently tallying wins in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Namely, the baseball, softball, and lacrosse teams have all succeeded in their own ways thus far in 2022.

Baseball and softball programs make trip to sunshine state

Prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and the slew of regulations that followed, the baseball and softball programs traditionally would fundraise through events at Boston College and Gillette Stadium to fund team trips to Florida over spring break. These annual trips returned this spring after a two-year hiatus, due to the relaxation of COVID protocols both on campus and nationwide.

Softball with best start in program history

After a long wait, the softball team didn’t waste time recording the best start in program history, with eight wins to begin the season before falling to Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in a set of doubleheaders. Since then, their overall record has returned to an average of 8-10, but the team matched their win total from their last full season played. Second-year head coach Sarah Woodside said she has seen the team improve in both attitude and skill since she stepped into her role with the program in 2020.

GNAC competition is back for spring

On March 8, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) released a statement approving the 2021 spring sports season with limited conference play. The news comes after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sarah Woodside is the new head softball coach at Lasell University. Woodside was a graduate of Lasell in 2007 and played outfield for the Lasers while obtaining a degree in Psychology. She coached at Wayland High school for five years prior to her hire at Lasell this summer.
