Throughout August and early September, parts of the United States have seen mass destruction between Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, and Hurricane Maria. The after effects of these natural disasters have left thousands of people without power, shelter, food, and their possessions. Senior communication major Armando Machado Jr. was inspired to lead an initiative on campus to help aid those in need.

Women’s Field Hockey is off to an 8-1 start, marking a school record. This is following a successful season where the team finished 12-7, making it to the GNAC semi-finals.

On October 14, Emily Machado will be honored as GNAC Sports Information Director of the year at halftime of the women’s soccer game during Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend. This will be her second award received at Lasell.

The Athletic Department and Development and Alumni Office will be hosting the first Induction Ceremony for their new athletics Hall of Fame on October 13 in de Witt Hall. Since Lasell joined the NCAA in 1998, the Hall of Fame is an “Exciting next step in the athletic program,” said Athletic Director Kristy Walter. “It is time to have this as a piece of our history, and recognize the individual and team success that we have had, in a short amount of time; it is a way to honor athletes, keep them connected to Lasell and inspir,e current and future athletes to reach to those heights,” she said.

The Lasell men’s volleyball team started its 2017 season with a bang, winning nine straight matches and dropping only one set to Endicott College at the Johnson and Wales University Invitational. Even after losing their first match at Ramapo College the Lasers continued on to win seven straight matches. At the time of publication the team is 19-4 and 4-0 in conference play.

The Lasell Athletic Department recently announced the creation of the Hall of Fame for exceptional student-athletes elected by a committee of appointed committee members. An induction ceremony will occur every two years on Family, Friends and Alumni weekend with a minimum of two members every year and a maximum of five inductees. The committee has invited any Lasell student, alumni, or fan to nominate student-athletes that they deem worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame. More…

Senior Day: an annual college sporting event commemorating the seniors on each team for their hard work over four years. However, the men’s and women’s basketball teams celebrated Senior Day with no four-year seniors on either roster. The women’s team had no seniors while the men’s team had three; Armin Omanovic, John Powell, and Yordan Villalon. None of the three played at Lasell for four years.

Senior captain of the women’s soccer team, Mackenzie Kingman is the first female athlete at Lasell to earn All-American status. As of December 1, The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named Kingman on the NCAA Division III Women’s All-America Second Team. In mid-January she attended the All-America luncheon and convention in Los Angeles to be honored for her historic accomplishment.
