Men’s, women’s basketball fall in doubleheader Reply

The men’s and women’s basketball teams each lost their respective games in a Tuesday night doubleheader.

Women’s basketball started the doubleheader against the University of St. Joseph’s, as the Lasers fell to the Blue Jays, 71-59. Lasell junior Alexis Chappell had a game-high 18 points and sophomore Katie Stopera led with seven assists. Lasell falls to 9-10 overall (2-3 GNAC).

No. 9 Amherst traveled to 1844 Commonweath Ave to take on the men’s team, defeating the Lasers 95-74. Senior Brandon Ganesh had a game-high 35 points for Lasell. The Lasers fall to 10-8.

Both teams play again on Saturday, February 8.

The women’s soccer team defeated Suffolk University 6-1 in the GNAC championship. The victory gives the women’s team its fourth straight conference title, a Lasell record. Junior Bridget Lynch scored three goals in the match, giving her the Lasell single-season scoring record of 33 goals. Her twin sister Kayla scored twice in the match.

The men’s soccer team fell to Johnson & Wales in the GNAC championship at Taylor Field. JWU defeated the Lasers 5-3 in penalty kicks after the two teams were tied 3-3 through 110 minutes. Lasell lead 3-1 after 75 minutes of play thanks to goals from junior Manny Alves, sophomore Conor Fitzgerald, and senior Mike Skelton. The Wildcats tied the match with back-to-back goals within two minutes of each other with ten minutes remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Johnson & Wales opened penalty kicks with a goal. Lasell missed its first penalty kick, which proved to be the difference maker in the match.

The men’s soccer team defeated Norwich University 3-1 to advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship. Senior Mike Skelton scored two goals for the Lasers. Lasell hosts Johnson and Wales in the GNAC championship on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The women’s soccer team advances to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference finals for a fourth straight season after defeating Emmanuel 5-2 on November 5. Freshman Megan Cullen led the Lasers with two goals. Lasell will host Suffolk on Saturday, November 9 for the GNAC championship.

The men’s soccer team defeated Rivier University 5-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinals. Senior Mike Skelton scored his 50th career goal in the 74th minute to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. Lasell will host Norwich University in the GNAC semifinals on Wednesday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m.
